Starting with the 5th grade level, all students are given the Selmer Musical Aptitude Survey, during a regular school day (about 45 minutes).  

Those students in 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade wishing to participate in the band program at the beginners level are encouraged to attend a demonstration meeting at Memorial High School.  The band classes at Holy Rosary meet in the "like instrument" classes (i.e. all beginner brasses, all beginner woodwinds, or percussion) during the school day, two times per week, at a nominal fee paid to Memorial High school.

Advanced band students (those with one year or more experience) meet by grade or ability groups during the day.  In addition, advanced students participate in full band rehearsal once a week. There is no additional fee for the full band rehearsal.
