Holiday and Halloween Party Guidelines |
|
|
In our ongoing effort to implement the Diocesan Wellness Policy at Holy Rosary School, we have developed the following guidelines to help contact parents and teachers plan and organize celebrations for our children.
The Wellness Committee recognizes the importance of sharing fun and celebrating together with our school community. We have heard the request from parents and teachers to help make celebrations a special occasion rather than having children “expect” a party or treat everyday. We are hopeful that we are getting this accomplished in a positive way and helping parents and teachers implement these changes as easily as possible.
Party/Celebrations Suggestions:
- Contact parents and teachers communicate regarding party expectations.
- Contact parents send communication to classroom parents with specific requests regarding food, drink, treats to be brought into classroom.
- Keep food to be eaten in the classroom party limited to 2-3 choices and one drink; it is fine for one of the food items to not follow the Wellness guidelines. For food ideas and portions, see suggestions below. Additional treats may be sent in to be collected in a goodie bag and sent home with the children. Request that parents send only wrapped treats NOT cupcakes, cookies, etc. that will be more difficult to send home in goodie bag.
Recommended portions:
- one and one-quarter ounces for chips, crackers, popcorn, cereal, trail mix, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, or jerky
- one and one half ounces for cookies
- two ounces for cereal bars, granola bars, pastries, muffins, doughnuts, and other bakery items
- three ounces for bagels and pretzels
- four fluid ounces for frozen desserts, including, but not limited to, low-fat or fat-free ice cream
- eight ounces for non-frozen yogurt
- twelve fluid ounces of all beverages, excluding water in the elementary schools; age-appropriate portion sizes for middle and high school students
- fruits and non-fried vegetables are exempt from portion size limits
Sincerely, HR Wellness Committee
