After School Care Program

After School Care Director: Trina Virden
After School Care Assistants: Mary Jo Mattingly, Susan Unfried

Purpose
The After School Care Program has been developed to provide a facility at school for children to have a safe, secure and caring environment until their parents are available after work. It is designed to provide an alternative care program free from additional transportation at an affordable cost to the parent.

Service Time
• 7:00 - 8:00am and 11:15am - 6:00pm for preschool students
• The first day of after school daycare begins the first full week your child attends school.
• The After School Care Program will follow the Totten Hall calendar. You will be notified by our monthly calendar, The Tattler, of days not in session.
• For children not picked up by 6:00pm, there is an additional late charge of $1.00 per minute after 6:00pm.
• Chronic late pick-ups may cause elimination from the program.

Enrollment and Scheduling
• Drop-in care available only on the basis of space availability.
• Program director will develop schedules of student attendance days and adjust the program appropriately.
• Parents requiring care for 3 to 5 days a week will be scheduled first.
• Remaining slots will be made available to parents wanting one or two days a week service.
• Students must have After School Care registration on file in order to attend After School Care.
• Please remember all children must be potty trained to attend Totten Hall and the After School Care Program. This means no pull-ups! If your child has frequent accidents, you may be asked to withdraw your child from the ASC Program.

Fees
• 7:00am - 8:00am - $1.00 per day for children NOT enrolled in after school care or have a sibling being dropped off at Holy Rosary.
• 11:15am - 3:00pm - $10.50 per day
• 11:15am - 6:00pm - $12.50 per day

The entire dollar amount for the week must be paid by the last day of that week. Service will not be provided the following week if there is a balance due. The program director or assistant will collect fees. There is a $25.00 non-refundable fee required for children new to the Totten Hall After School Care Program to guarantee your child's spot. Make checks payable to Holy Rosary Totten Hall.

Program
• After School Care program operates mainly out of the Children's Center. Students will travel to the library, gym, playground, etc. as needed. The phone number for the Children's Center is 471-7228.
• Preschool students will be served lunch out of the cafeteria for $1.75 per day, or they may bring a sack lunch. Milk is $0.25. Parents must inform staff each morning if student is bringing or buying milk.
• Children will have a snack each day.
• Staff will permit children to use playground facilities as weather permits, under supervision.

Rest Time
Preschoolers will be provided rest time daily as needed. Each child staying for the After School Care program will be provided a nap roll which will be theirs to keep at the end of the school year.

Discipline
Any child displaying extreme behavioral problems can be eliminated from the program after consultation with the principal and parents.

Arrival
Parents of preschool students using the early drop off program must walk their preschoolers into the building.

Departure
Parents must sign out children with After School Care staff when picking up students. If someone other than those persons listed on your application is to pick up your child, you must provide a written note. If there will be a delay in picking up your child, please call the After School Care staff.

Illness Policy
Illness and Absenteeism: If your child will not be attending after school care, please call us. Check your child in the morning for signs of illness. IF YOUR CHILD HAS A TEMPERATURE, DIARRHEA, A RASH, VOMITING, NASAL DISCHARGE, OR DISCHARGE FROM THE EYES, PLEASE KEEP THEM AT HOME! WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY CHILD WITH THESE SYMPTOMS. A Child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to After School Care.

If your child has been exposed to a contagious disease, he or she should be kept at home.

If your child becomes ill during the after school daycare, the parent will be notified and will be expected to pick the child up in a timely manner. If your child is sent home ill from Totten Hall, the child will not be permitted to return to the after school program that day.

Emergencies
Should an emergency occur, we would contact the child's parents and the child's doctor. Part of your parent release allows us to contact your physician and to take necessary emergency medical measures.

School Delay, Closing and Early Dismissal Information

  • If Totten Hall is in session on a one hour delay, after school care will also be in session. Due to a two hour delay, Totten Hall and the after school care will not be in session.
  • When the school day is canceled by the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation Holy Rosary Totten Hall Preschool’s school day will also be canceled.
  • When there is a change in the weather while our preschool’s After School Care is in session and the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation closes school early, our preschool’s After School Care will also close at the same time the Evansville-Vanderburgh Schools are closing.
  • The radio and television stations will broadcast school closings and delays.  If children are not picked up at the time of the early dismissal, our After School Care team will begin making calls to be sure that families are aware of the early closing.
